What is the boundary between place and space?
This was the beginning of the project.
I believe space is more public, open to everybody, while a place is more private, encompassing someone's memory, time, and feelings. A hair salon usually requires an open space; however, the client wanted to provide a private space for her customers because they sometimes have serious hair problems, which are very sensitive and private. Therefore, I planned an enclosed space that turns out to be both a public and private place.
The colors are a very soft yellow, so that customers can feel a calm impression. The shape of the curtains is an arch shape that gives the impression of softness, so customers do not have to feel pressure while they are in the salon. The building is a really small place, so I do not want to make it feel like a narrow tiny space. It gives the spacious impression with round-shaped curtains.
The half-transparent and round-shaped textiles embody the kindness of the owner.
